Art Therapy

Art Therapy Overview
Art Therapy is a mental health profession that incorporates art making with traditional talk therapy. Art therapy is provided by trained, credentialed Art Therapists.
What To Expect
In art therapy sessions, clients use visual art materials such as drawing, painting, collage, and clay, to express emotions and process experiences in a creative way. Rather than focusing on the artistic quality of your artwork, we would focus on the insights gained from the process or use the artwork as a focal point for therapeutic conversation. You can choose what to create, or I can provide a suggestion.
Art Therapy Benefits
There are many benefits to art therapy. With art therapy, clients can communicate without words. Making art can increase feelings of confidence and can reduce feelings of stress. By using metaphor, clients are able to create distance from difficult experiences and discover new perspectives. Research has shown that art therapy reduces symptoms of various mental health disorders, including eating disorders and depression. If you have ever felt like putting words to your emotions, thoughts, and experiences is challenging, art therapy might be for you.
